Dickens – Nicholas Nickleby, a farce in two acts, taken from the popular work of that name by ‘Boz’, by Edward Stirling Esq as performed at the Royal Adelphi Theatre ...first performed November 19 1838. 8vo, 36pp, modern brown paper wrappers, some repairs with adhesive tape (which should be removed as soon as possible). Probably first edition, with dedication to Dickens and frontispiece illustration taken from the performance. A Dickens rarity. Dickens was known to have attended performances of this adaptation of his novel and though he in general objected to any adaptation of his unfinished work, for this particular effort he termed it ‘admirably done’.
