Scotland – The Highland Rebellion 1715 issue of St James’s Evening Post dated September 29th – October 1st 1715 with a contemporaneous report on the progress of the Highland Rebellion led by the Earl of Mar in his attempt to bring James Francis Stuart ‘The Old Pretender’ to the throne. The issue also carries an extensive report on the landing of the Earl of Mar in Scotland, as well as a verbatim printing of Mar’s mendacious letter to George I swearing loyalty to the Crown. The 1715 Rebellion was eventually crushed by loyal forces under the Duke of Argyll. James Francis Stuart, also known as ‘James III’ who was at best half-hearted about the whole enterprise, eventually fled back to the safety of the Continent where he remained until his death. 4pp folio, portion of the bottom margin of first leaf torn away, not affecting text, otherwise in good fresh and legible condition.
