Tudor Autograph – Henry Courtenay, 1st Marquis of Exeter document signed bearing his rare signature, a total of eight lines in early Tudor script, signed by Henry to base, in generally good fresh condition. On a strip of vellum approx 27x11cm. Courtenay (1496-1539), a grandson of Edward IV was a powerful landowner in the West Country, and particular rival of Thomas Cromwell during the reign of Henry VIII. He was opposed to the dissolution of the monasteries, a fact which eventually led to his downfall, and eventual execution in 1539. His signature is rare.
