Scarce and fine 1899 "The Rules of Golf, as adopted by The Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews" - approved September 1899 - in stunning art nouveau style decorative green and gilt cloth boards with the bevelled edges - 32pp, plus advertisements to the rear including Auchterlonie, Tom Stewart, Tom Morris, and Alex Patrick Leven - pages with gilt top line, marbled end-papers. Printed by W C Henderson & Son St Andrews - some minor foxing noted otherwise quite stunning (VG). This was the first standard code, to be adopted by all golf clubs, issued after the formation of the Rules of Golf Committee in 1897, making this a milestone publication. Note See The Patino Origins of Golf Catalogue - Christies lot no. 60 May 2012 identical lot which realised ?6500 and the above appears in better condition!
