Gustavson, Lealand R (1894-1966) No.1 and No. 2 COURSES AT PINEHURST, NORTH CAROLINA. A pair of oil on boards both signed and dated '53 - each image 14"x 16" - overall 19 x 21". Note: Gustavson was born in 1894 and was a prolific practitioner of fine and commercial art who contributed to leading publications of his day. He was a member of the Society of Illustrators. He studied in New York at The Grand Central School of Art under Harvey Dunn. Gustavson settled in Westport, Connecticut and worked in New York where he received commissions to produce art for McCall's and The Saturday Evening Post. He rendered a series of six pictures, later made into popular prints, for a book entitled Important Moments in the History of Golf. He was later asked to produce appropriate illustrations for an instruction book entitled How to play your Best Golf All The Time. Later he wrote and illustrated his own special interest book entitled Enjoy Your Golf. Gustavson died at Westport, Connecticut on 20th July 1966.
