Original drawing of Edward VII in India India – Edward VII an original pencil drawing by Sydney Prior Hall showing Edward VII, then Prince of Wales, during his legendary visit to India, bestowing the Order of the Star of India on the Maharajah of Jaipur at a ceremony held in Calcutta on January 1st 1876. The drawing also shows the Earl of Northbrook, at the time the Viceroy of India. This is the working drawing for Prior Hall’s oil painting of the event which belonged to the Earl of Northbrook and which hung in his ancestral home at Stratton Park. Measures approx 19x14ins, framed with a print of the oil painting affixed to verso. Fine condition. Prior Hall (1842-1922) is noted for his paintings of Indian subjects. His portrait of Prince Victor Duleep Singh, commissioned by the Prince for Queen Victoria, now hangs in the Durbar Hall in Osborne House on the Isle of Wight.
