India – Tanjore School Watercolour of an Akali with Lady. A finely executed early 19th century Tanjore painting, heightened in gold, of a Sikh warrior holding a bow, standing with a female companion, c1805-10. The panting is of the highest quality from the South Indian School, and exceptionally large in size. A similar painting from the same series is in the Victoria & Albert Museum. Early depictions of Nihangs and Akali are most rare. Please note that this painting has been UV tested and colours are confirmed of natural pigments and age.
