Cheshire – Sir Julius Caesar letter from Francis Ocle(y) to a secretary to Sir Julius Caesar named only as ‘Mr Bassell’ dated March 5th 1613, saying that he is writing on behalf of a friend who wishes to be appointed Receiver of Customs for West Chester and has secured the agreement of all the farmers of the customs (with one exception) and encloses a letter [not present] for Caesar to sign, or in any event for Bassell to sign on his behalf. At this time Caesar was Chancellor of the Exchequer. Together with a letter of Sir Henry Wotton to Caesar dated 1609.
