Ephemera – Peep Show – The Great Exhibition Lane’s Telescopic View of the Interior of…

Ephemera – Peep Show – The Great Exhibition Lane’s Telescopic View of the Interior of the Great Exhibition of 1851, published in London in June 1851 by Charles Lane. Coloured card title front, with concertina arrangement and viewing hole providing the viewer with a view down the main hall of the Great Exhibition. Outside a little scuffed and dusty, consistent with age and use at the time, but interior contents in remarkably good condition considering the nature of the item. A good example of a rare and highly sought after item of ephemera. This was produced as a souvenir of the event, and offered a three dimensional perspective of the interior of the Crystal Palace. The cover measures approx 7x6ins and still has the Perspex on the viewing hole. The hand coloured inside panels together form a view of a large qty of objects including fountains and figures together with bunting, flags and tall trees. The side panels are made of linen.
