Ephemera – commonplace book of Major General ECA Gordon, Royal Engineers, containing his diary covering a period of late 1846 and into 1847, and also featuring a qty of pasted down press cuttings on various subjects but mostly relating to house and garden topics. Some pages of the diary have been neatly removed, possibly by Gordon or a descendent, possibly for security reasons (perhaps he said or did something which he shouldn’t), and the press cuttings suggest that this book was used by him in retirement, once he’d given up the Army and retired to the country. 4to, marbled boards a little rubbed but interior contents appear good
