The Bridgewater Militia prepares to face Napoleon – an original pay list and return and officers, NCOs and men assembled for training at Bridgwater from Monday May 18th- June 9th 1812, folio, 28pp preprinted with ms insertions. A fine and revealing document drawn up at a time when the war against Napoleon was at its height. The return lists 24 officers, 66 NCOs, 17 drummers and 641 privates with their pay and allowances for the training period. Also included is a receipt given by a William Gooding for use of a field for the training exercise with a note on the reverse signed by Lt Col Allen of the Militia saying that no common land was available.
