Autograph – Military – Duke of Wellington printed receipt with ms insertions dated June 2nd 1814 signed by the Duke of Wellington to base. Wellington is here signing for the make up of his pay following his promotion to Field Marshal. The receipt covers a period of 61 days at a rate of &pound8.15s.9d per day totalling &pound536.0.9d from which was deducted 2s in pound for Property Tax. The receipt itself was printed in Spain, with a Spanish printers imprint to verso. Wellington had been promoted to Field Marshal following the decisive defeat of Joseph Bonaparte, King of Spain at the Battle of Vittorio in June 1913. A remarkable and rare document.
