America – Cincinnati 1844 a fine and extensive ms letter written from Cincinnati, Ohio in 1844, from the context clearly written by a married couple, probably from Manchester, seeking a new life in America, and providing a considerable description of their travels and activities: ‘...while working on the steamer we went on a trip up the Red River, three hundred miles higher than any boat ever went before, right up amongst the Chuctaw, Cherekee [sic] and other Indian tribes. While up there out boat was wrecked, 2,500 miles above New Orleans. We had not means of getting back to civilized people but by means of Indian canoes, camping at nights in the woods, on the banks of the river where there were thousands of ...crocodiles, alligators, blood suckers, vampires and other dangerous water reptiles and around us in the woods were bears, wolves &c but the most we suffered from were the mosquitoes...’ 4pp 4to with a fine engraved letter head showing a panoramic view of the city of Cincinnati.
